School Visit November 2016
In November 2016 a group of 7 travelled to the Thai Cambodia border to visit the school. Team members were:
Jan and Bob Moulton from Adelaide who run our sister support group called Hearts of Hope and have been involved in the school for many years
Jen Spoor – coordinator Steps with Hope
Eva Robinson – supporter of SWH for many years
Rhys Watkins – 16 year old volunteer for many years. Rhys is entering year 12 and has undertaken to make a DVD for future fundraising purposes.
Dom Allen – grandson to John who visited the school with us in 2014
Fraser Taylor – friend and travel partner to Dom
This trip was probably the most physically challenging yet. The school needed to be painted inside and out in 4 days. While that was a huge challenge we did finish it (would you believe with the help of the Thai army who turned up unexpectedly probably to see what these foreigners were up to and were keen to get painting alongside us) and the new blue exterior looked amazing.
As well as our usual craft with the children, Dom and Fraser set up a slack line (like a tight rope) and whilst the children were reticent to give it a go initially they soon realised how much fun it was and we couldn’t keep them off it! Rhys (who was busy filming to produce a high quality DVD for promotion) was very popular with the children who were keen to learn some photography skills.
As usual our time at the school was over way too quickly and we had to say goodbye for another year.
What a blessing it is for us to be able to be involved so directly in helping these wonderful children with education and general welfare.
Next trip planned for late 2017.
