Joining Hearts Dinner and Dance   D6C

On August 1st 2015, 223 guests Joined Hearts with Steps with Hope and attended our Fundraising Dinner and Dance held in the Function Centre at Hornsby RSL. A wonderful night was enjoyed, with welcoming music from harpist Mari Watkins, great dancing with duo The Georgia Project and amazing entertainment from Take 4 Jazz ensemble with visiting musicians and vocalist Bella Harvey.

Our Master of Ceremonies Tony Trenbath kept things lively and entertaining as well as surprising us with singing a couple of songs! There was lots of dancing, great food, hourly giveaways, cards for sale, complimentary gift bags for everyone – all set in a lovely atmosphere with bright table decorations reflecting the Steps with Hope colours.

The highlight of the evening was a heartwarming talk given by Year 7 girls Prue Smith and Liliana Waters. Both these girls have visited the Steps with Hope school and shared some of their impressions of their experience and the difference this has made in their lives. They both spoke beautifully and from the heart. This was followed by a DVD presentation put together by 14 year old Rhys Watkins, explaining the work of the school and our hopes and prayers to raise enough money to keep the school running and also to fund an English teacher for at least a year. English is a language that is in demand and will hopefully give the children an advantage in this remote part of Cambodia.

Donations were received following the presentation and yes, our prayers were answered. The total figure raised for the event was over $23,000 with some donations still being received which means the Steps with Hope school is funded for the foreseeable future and the English teacher can be employed for at least a year.

On behalf of the Steps with Hope team I would like to personally relay my thanks to everyone who was a part of this event. Those who brought it all together to be sucn a wonderful evening and those who supported Steps with Hope by their attendance, their donations and their prayers. Expressions of interest are being taken if you are keen to join a team to visit the school in 2016. Please email me at for further details.

Thanks again
