School visit 2011

In October 2011 a small team once again accompanied me to Thailand to visit the school. What we saw was greatly improved from our trip one year previously. The new school had been built on a small piece of land donated by the Thai Government. It was a welcome sight although not completely finished it was a breath of fresh air to see where the Steps with Hope money was being used. The School is a brick building equipped with electricity and fans providing a cool breeze in very hot weather. There is one large room that has wall dividers to turn the room into 3 classrooms. The 3 teachers are the same dedicated young ladies that we met last year. They are so enthusiastic and kind. The other staff are Sopheap who is the project manager and who also does the cooking for the children each day. She is the local pastors wife and has excellent English we are blessed to have her working with us. We have also employed a local young man named Wayne who is overseeing the maintenance and repairs of the building.

The new School building also has a toilet block with a wash up area and a small store room. To complete the facilities there is a small area for cooking the daily meal for the children.

Our visit to the school lasted 3 days during which we painted some of the internal walls, installed a new water tank donated by Rye Park Public school, purchased a TV and DVD for the school and showed the children the DVD of themselves from the previous year they were amazed and overjoyed.

We also purchased a new uniform each for the children as the ones we had provided last year were getting rather worn (they do wear them 5 days a week!).

One of the highlights was running various crafts with the children and teachers and as you will see from the photographs they had lots of fun making class murals, redback spiders, colouring in pictures, playing with balloons and making craft to decorate the drab school walls. Thanks goes to Rhonda McDonald for preparing 100 of everything for us to take with us. The children had heaps of fun.

Please take the time to browse the photographs.
